Wondvocht wordt bij voorkeur direct in het verband boven de wond opgenomen, waardoor vocht weggehouden wordt van de omliggende huid en het risico op maceratie wordt verminderd.\nDe vloeistof die zich direct in de vezelstructuur bevindt, is als het ware 'opgesloten' in het verband, waardoor er weinig vocht terugvloeit naar de huid\/het wondoppervlak.\nHet risico op beschadiging van de wondrand en het omliggende weefsel wordt daardoor verminderd.\nDoordat de vezels wondvocht absorberen, zwellen ze op en vormen ze een gel die zich aanpast aan het wondoppervlak.
